We consider combining music education in the teaching curriculum at Margalit High School to be of great importance. This is a tool for bettering the students, for enriching their cultural world and developing their intellect. Music is first and foremost a means of self expression, encouraging the qualities of expressiveness and creativity. Music studies widen horizons, cultivate excellence and other important qualities such as self-discipline, the ability to cope with success as well as failure, competition and criticism and reinforce the perception of time and space. All this and more, research studies have proven that music education has a positive influence on additional skills, such as language and mathematics, which contribute to scholastic success.
70 students are studying in the music course. The girls are preparing for matriculation of 5 units in music, a subject recognized by the Ministry of Education. The school has musical instruments which are loaned out to the students for the period of their studies.
The purpose of the studies is to develop the girls' musical skills, preparing them for careers as professional musicians or as music teachers. All the students receive personal and group instruction in various educational frameworks.
The students learn the basics of music theory, the history of music, computer composition, playing the piano or a wind instrument, and playing in a group.
